Social Media Image Sizes 2022

If you think you are aware of all the image sizes that you need in your social media channels then you are wrong. Social media platforms are constantly changing their pixel requirements or adding new ones.

Whether you're in charge of managing your social media accounts for your small business or you're working in a marketing agency, we've put together this complete guide to all types and sizes of images to keep you updated.

And if you need a fast, easy and free way to get all the right image sizes you need, just save the link to this article we will keep you updated:

Facebook photo sizes

Regardless of what it has been promoting lately towards Facebook, it is still the leader in social media with more than 2.27 billion active users on its platform.

Posting clear images is very important on Facebook like all the other platforms we'll look at later. Let's face it, no one cares the slightest bit about a blurry or pixelated image.

Keep in mind that as mobile devices vary in screen size and add other features like Facebook Stories, there are a lot of dynamic variables to consider. But in this article we have included all the current volumes running on the platform as of 2020.

Story - 1080 x 1920 pixels

Page cover photo (business and personal accounts) 820 x 312 pixels.

When creating this image keep a few things in mind. First, remember that the profile picture will cover some of the bottom left of the cover photo, so try to keep important design elements away from that angle. Second, the maximum file size allowed is 100KB, so JPG could be a better choice to allow for a smaller image size. However, if you have a logo or a lot of text in this image, you can rely on the PNG file for a clear upload.

  • Event cover photo: 1920 x 1080 pixels.
  • Group / group cover photo: 1640 x 859 pixels.
  • Vertical/Vertical Prism: 1080 x 1350 pixels.
  • Profile picture: 180 x 180 pixels.
  • Published photos: 1200 x 630 pixels.
  • News Feed image : 1200 x 628 pixels.
  • Ad image (for a link): 1200 x 628 pixels.
  • Facebook Carousel Ads 600 x 600 pixels.
  • Highlighted image 1200 x 717 pixels.
  • Images for brands Marketplace image 1024 x 1024 pixels.
  • Event photo - 470 x 174 pixels.

Pro (Expert) Tip: Facebook will automatically resize images to fit your screen. So, if your photos are too small, Facebook will expand them and that will result in blurry and clipped photos. So it's best to resize the images to the recommended dimensions for the best resolution so that they are always visible and Facebook will handle the rest.

Instagram photo sizes

Instagram is no longer just a platform for square-shaped images, but this social network enables you to upload horizontal images and also has new features such as story publishing that allows you to add videos.

Here are all types and sizes of images you can use:

  • Square size photos - 1080 x 1080 pixels
  • Thumbnails - 161 x 161 pixels. This is the smallest image size that Instagram changes when you post photos to your profile. However, we do not recommend using this size for your photos, all you have to do is stick to the higher resolution and then let Instagram do what it needs to keep your photos clear across all display devices.
  • Landscape photos (Horizontal photos) 1080 x 566 pixels
  • Portrait Images (Vertical Images) - 1080 x 1350 pixels
  • Story - 1080 x 1920 pixels. Keep in mind that the maximum file size is 4GB, but most images are hardly that big, so you don't have to worry.
  • Profile photo - 110 x 110 pixels. These images are set to display as a circle so if you are using a square logo you should place the main element of the image in the center so that the edges are not cropped.

Pro (Expert) tip: Instagram will keep your photos in much higher resolution if you post them directly through the app. The use of a third-party tool to publish content often reduces the resolution and quality of the images. This means that you may need to take a more practical approach to posting content on Instagram.

You can test the two and you'll see if you notice a difference. If not, the tool you choose may not cause any problem.

Twitter Image Sizes

More than 67 million active users are added to Twitter every month, making the platform more impressive than ever.

In the last couple of years, and then some updates to the UI, so if you haven't updated the info in a while, it's a good idea to look at the following:

  • Profile photo - 400 x 400 pixels (2MB max file size). Just like Instagram, the profile picture takes the shape of a circle. The edges of the square-shaped logos used here are also cropped, so you may need to create a new logo with that in mind.
  • Interface image - 1500 x 500 pixels (5MB max file size). Twitter Analytics will give you information about the number of people who visit your page directly. Given that the title/interface image takes up a lot of the top of your page, you should use it to your advantage to get attention.
  • Published photos - 1200 x 675 pixels.
  • Twitter Cards for websites: 1024 x 512 pixels.
  • in-stream photo 440 x 220 pixels (5MB max file size for photos or 3 MB in-stream photo 440 x 220 pixels (5MB max file size for photos or 3MB max file size for mobile gifs) 15 MB if downloaded from a desktop computer to the original application).
  • Images with share link - 800 x 418 pixels
  • Expert tip: Twitter allows you to upload four images per post to create some kind of gallery for your tweets. Think of these images as content tag cards.

youtube image sizes

Although YouTube is not a photo-sharing site like other social media platforms, photos still play an important role in its platform.

And with more than a billion YouTube users, you definitely won't let the few photos on your YouTube channel make a bad impression.

  • Thumbnail for YouTube 1280 × 720 pixels
  • Channel image - front image ( header ) 2560 x 1440 pixels. YouTube channels can be viewed on large screens such as TV. So it's a good idea to use these dimensions to ensure that the channel image looks good no matter what screen size it is displayed on
  • YouTube Cover (Banner) 2560 x 1140 pixels
  • Channel icon ( Channel icon) 800 × 800 pixels
  • Leaderboard - 728 x 90 pixels
